I thought the world would collapse—
the buzzing silence in that room,
the warm light coming through the window
toward the blue carpeted floor.
I thought my world had collapsed.
I had been so scared
of what could, and what might,
that I forgot:
worlds don’t collapse.
They keep on spinning
on their axis—
they really don’t stop.
What might look like tragedy
from one point of view
is, from another,
just a good laugh.
I thought I would collapse—
but what caught me
was the network of love
sent from above.
